It all started as an improvisation duo with the idea of exploring and exploiting the personalities of the ones involved, at the very beginning it was formed by percussionists Juan Carlos Bonifaz & Aldo Aranda, soon it changed as Aldo moved to Den Haag to a trio (which you are hearing now) with Marcelo Moncada (sax) and Inti Rebolledo (guitar).
This project was part of my doctoral research at IPEM Gent (Institute for Psychoacoustics and Electronic Music) … A circular process that involves the re-creation of past musical behaviours as individuals, then a subjective examination of what happened as a whole, then a personal and group dissertation of what is working and what not (as artists) and a new re-creation of the output of this process. Intuition grows stronger through this circular process, we hope you enjoy this pieces, parts of our personalities, trying to become trees, the roots growing underground, the branches showing it’s changing shapes.

A composition by Carlos Passeggi, written for the Belgian-Mexican percussionist Juan Carlos Bonifaz.
The instrumentation is marimba, recorded electronics and set of kitchen elements used as percussion instruments.
It is based on 16 traditional tongue twisters from different cultures and languages recorded by Juan Carlos Bonifaz between 2004 and 2020.
In addition, I myself wrote an original tongue twister for the piece which is also included.
The recording was made on 3 December 2023 in the auditorium of the “Academie voor Muziek en Woord de Noorderkempen” in Baarle Hertog Belgium. It was mixed at TAI music productions Lincoln Argentina during June 2024. The video was edited by Eugenia Passeggi and Carlos Passeggi.
Thanks to Iñaki Sebastian for the gorgeous “Elite mallets” and to Wendy Hölzken for all her support.
