Mandrake

In the book of imaginary beings by Jorge Luis Borges, we find unbelievable stories. One of these is a plant that in the border turns out to be an animal: the “Mandrake.”

This plant cries when it is broken and this sound can change people’s minds. They can even become afflicted. Just think of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet(IV, iii): “And shrieks like mandrakes torn out of the earth, that living mortals,hearing them, run mad … ”

This song mutates all the time, with less tragic consequences admittedly. The musical magic turns the drummer into a marimba player, the marimba player into a vibraphonist and the vibraphonist into a marimba player. These mutations are so subtle that the line between one and the other is quasi-invisible.
